Holy Goats! improv series at Performance Works NorthWest, Portland, Oregon.
You, Of All People, Should Understand
15 minute structured improvisation for 4 musicians and 4 dancers (Lilly Chamberlain, James McNamara, Lauren Butler-Smith and Diane Haluska)
[from Wilson's notes]:
"...It was a fairly strict basis for improv; it opened with me doing some beats
that get layered and mangled (effects) along with drum machine sounds. I
started the beats straight and quickly messed them up, Joe played drums, and
Ezra did some woodblock-type percussion. We started slow and whipped that
up, then came to an abrupt halt (cue from Joe on drums, I pulled the plugs
on the loops I had going, literally pulling the audio cord at the right
moment). Then Taylor kicked in with a sax solo. Then we joined in one a
time, Joe on trumpet, me on synth, Ezra on violin (he was supposed to use a
duck call that he's good with but that's another story...). We brought that
up to another semi-climax and then remained silent for a bit, the dancers
continuing uninterrupted. They called out for a dance soloist and on cue I
picked someone randomly. We came in one at a time with Joe on drums, Ezra
back on violin, Taylor on clarinet, and me on bass. We then started putting
our instruments down as Joe started on bells and we each picked up some form
of bell percussion, the dancers running up and also picking up bells. Then
we all ran around with the bells madcap-like and that was the end..."
